We are not fighting against you- Professor Gyampo boldly tells NPP government

Professor Gyampo has made a bold statement to send a straight message to the members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). At the moment, the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has taken it upon themselves to fight for better conditions of service for themselves. The members of UTAG voluntarily initiated a strike action which lasted for over a month before it was called off.

With this, many people especially the members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) thought UTAG members were making the government unpopular. Most people thought the activities of UTAG were being driven by some political interest or force to put the government under some form of pressure.

Professor Gyampo who is the secretary of the University of Ghana chapter of UTAG has come out to say that all these claims are false. According to him, the members of UTAG do not have any political backing for their actions. They do not intend to go against any political party in the country. Their only intention is to make sure that the right things are done and that they receive better conditions of service.

Speaking on a television show earlier yesterday, Professor Gyampo said that UTAG is not being driven by any political force. He made mention of the fact that, UTAG members fought for their rights when the National Democratic Congress was in power and that is exactly what they are doing under Nana Addo's NPP government so there is no need to think that, UTAG members are politically mandated to carry out certain actions.

Professor Gyampo boldly said that, UTAG is not fighting against this NPP government in anyway and the only reason why UTAG members are doing what they do is that, their employers have not addressed their grievances yet. We are not fighting against your government. Our actions are only geared towards fighting for better conditions of service, he boldly told the members of the NPP.

He also lamented on the fact that, it is very important for Ghanaians to know that, UTAG members do not have bad intentions for anyone. They are only doing their best to see improvement in their lives as teachers in our various universities. They are also normal Ghanaians like us and they have families to cater for.
