Kwesi Pratt Identifies 3 Occupations Who Might Go On Strike After 2022 Budget Presentation

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta is expected to present the 2022 Budget in the coming week. Many Ghanaians are anticipating a budget that will reduce taxes and save the ordinary Ghanaian from the burdens and hazards that Covid-19 has inflicted on them. But even before the budget is presented, the opposition NDC feel that there will be nothing new to present. They have tagged the budget as ‘Serwaa Broni’ and claimed that it will end up imposing more taxes.

Kwesi Pratt, a CPP and managing editor of the Insight newspaper has cast doubts about the new budget to be presented. According to him he fears for the Finance Minister because it is clear that the government has failed. According to Kwesi Pratt he has heard people of diverse occupations speak over the week and feels that the budget will unmake or make the government.

Kwesi added that the private transport operators postponed their intended strike because they want to wait and listen to what the new budget will say concerning fuel prices. He added that University teachers and medical institutions also spoken and awaiting change in working conditions in the new budget. Mr. Pratt admitted that without a favorable budget for the upcoming year, UTAG, Doctors and Transport operators will embark on a strike to express their grievances.

“If we continue like this, we will not get to salvation. We might end up in doom” Kwesi Pratt

Mr Pratt was of the view that many other professionals and workers might join in the strike because It had become apparent that government was spending big on herself, leaving Ghanaians to suffer under heavy taxes, poor roads and low salaries.
