The 1992 constitution of Ghana makes the president the Commander in-chief of the Ghana Armed Forces. What this means is that, the president has the greatest responsibility and authority in ensuring the security of every citizen of Ghana.
In the past few years, incidents of abuse of citizens by vigilante groups that are mostly linked to the ruling New Patriotic Party have been widely reported. Sadly, a state institution like the court has also fallen victim to the activities of these hooligans in the past.
Many Ghanaians, particularly members of the opposition National Democratic Congress believes that president Akufo-Addo should be blamed for his inability to crack the whip, by ensuring that tags who engage in these criminal activities are punished in accordance with law.
Clearly, Manaseh Azure Awuni also share similar sentiment. In a post sighted on his Facebook page on Tuesday, the freelance investigative journalist wondered if the president is at post.
"AK47-wielding Delta Forces handcuff Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator. And the police allowed them to go home. They attacked the Regional Coordinator in the past. They attacked the court and freed their members who were standing trial. And they're free. Is Akufo-Addo at post?", He asked rhetorically.
