Buhari is in Accra for the ECOWAS Summit, together with other West African leaders.

On Saturday, June 4, 2022, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari will attend an Extraordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Accra, Ghana, with other West African leaders.

The summit will focus on the political situation in Mali and other parts of the sub-region, according to a statement released by President Buhari's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina.

"President Muhammadu Buhari will attend an Extraordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government on the political situation in Mali and other parts of the sub-region today, Saturday, June 4 in Accra, Ghana," the statement stated.

The "Summit, which will take place at the Presidential Palace in Accra, popularly known as the Jubilee House, is anticipated to examine progress achieved by Mali's military junta on the country's restoration to democratic rule."

"The Heads of State will also consider the situation in Burkina Faso and Guinea."

The President will be accompanied by Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Maj-Gen Babagana Monguno (rtd), National Security Adviser; and Amb. Ahmed Rufa'i Abubakar, Director-General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), according to the release.

At the conclusion of today's summit, Buhari will return to Abuja.
