We are Waiting For A Signal To Start Campaigning And Win Assin North-Yaw Buaben Asamoah

The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party, Yaw Buaben Asamoah, has revealed that, his party is awaiting a signal to start campaigning at the Assin North Constituency.

Speaking on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana show together with Sammy Gyamfi and host of the show, Randy Abbey, the former Adentan MP in the seventh Parliament indicated that, his party is getting ready across all platforms and is only waiting for a signal to "set the ball rolling" at Assin North.

The Assin North Parliamentary seat has been rendered vacant after the Cape Coast High Court pronounced the elections as null and invalid and ordered the incumbent, James Quayson, to stop holding himself as such. The Court has also ordered for by-elections in the area.

" I want to make it very clear that, the New Patriotic Party, as I sit here, and across all other platforms are ready and waiting for a signal to go and campaign in Assin North. We are not going to litigate this matter outside court. However compelling our arguments are, I think our arguments have made our case and we have won at the High Court. We have won this case at the High Court. Until they are able to prove all their arguments in the Appeals Court, we have won. So it is their entitlement. I am repeating it, we are as a political party, not going to litigate the post decision issues they are raising with them. They can go to the Appeals Court and engage in those matters but as far as we are concerned as a political party, we have won the case and I have congratulated our lawyers for a solid job. I believe we are on track and the onus is on the NDC to go and pass down the law and make all the distinctions they are busily making here", Yaw Buaben concluded.

He indicated it was well within the rights of members of the NDC to appeal the case but was confident that, if the by-elections are held in Assin North, the NPP would win.

In the 2020 Parliamentary elections, the incumbent and NPP candidate, Abena Durowaa Mensah lost the seat to NDC’s James Quayson.

Meanwhile, the legal team of the NDC are meeting today to plan on the way forward.

Sammy Gyamfi indicated that, an appeal was obvious.
