Residents of Nyinahin in the Ashanti Region have expressed bitterness over Assembly's decision to gravel the untarred roads after Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia promised them of asphalt which is part of the syno -hydro deal in the district.
In press conference, the residents indicates they are not enthused when Vice President visited the district as part of his tour of the Region last year promised them that Nyinahin town roads is going to be asphalted but has now turn into chip-seal road.
Following the President and his Vice tour to the district before 2020 election, most of the dusty roads were reshaped by the Districts Assemblies to make easy for his movement.
But the residents expressed their frustration about the bad nature of the roads couple with health hazard and mess they would have to go through plying the dusty roads after the President's tour last year.
For them, since the Bauxite is going to be mined in the district, they should have simply maintained the roads by using asphalt considering the health hazards to their lives.
"This is a terrible situation, if the district is going to be Bauxite hub, then there is the need to work on the roads, then the assemblies should have used the opportunity to tare the roads, for they also need asphalt roads," some of the residents told reporter.
It is common knowledge that those who live by the non-tarred roads are suffering from cardiac problems due to the constant inhaling dust. Those who are already suffering from eye infections and congested lungs get more infections each day.
The residents are therefore appealling to the government to take action to avert possible respiratory problems among the people living along the bad roads in the district.
