I look forward to the day I tell the minority I disagree with their position- Mahama Ayariga says

Honorable Mahama Ayariga, the Member of Parliament for the Bawku Central Constituency, has described it as a shameful partisan position our Members of Parliament take regarding issues that come to the house. The Bawku Central legislator asserted that it is about time Members of Parliament took an independent stand on issues even if it doesn't represent the view of their political party.

Mahama Ayariga said he looks forward to the day he tells the minority where he disagrees with their stand on a critical national issue and goes public with it irrespective of the consequences. Mahama Ayariga also disclosed that he looks forward to the day that members of the majority boldly declare their stand on national issues even if it is against the view of their party.

Speaking on the Good Evening Ghana show hosted by Paul Adom Otchere ( on Thursday, December 7), Mahama Ayariga said "For me, it is still a shame that on critical matters like this, you can't get people on both sides of the house to take independent positions. I look forward to the day when I will confidently say to my colleagues that I disagree with the minority position on this and I'm going public on that, irrespective of the consequences".

Meanwhile, Honourable Mahama Ayariga also indicated that the current happenings in Parliament are good for the democracy of the country. He maintained that, if Ghanaians see that the legislature is putting the executive branch of government in check by asking them to go and amend their budget, the executive heeds and do an amendment on the budget and if there is a dispute and the court is seen to be dispensing justice without fear or favor, they will have confidence in the institutions and resist anybody who will attempt to do something untoward to distabilize the democracy of the country.
