There is a failed attempt to get Parliament to work collectively after the 2022 fiscal year budget was recently approved by the Majority group in the absence of the Minority Caucus. The growing brouhaha is centred on how the 1st Deputy Speaker, Joe Wise overturned a decision made by Rt. Hon Alban Bagbin to approve the initially rejected budget.
As we communicate now, there is a stalemate in the chamber as lawmakers from both sides of the house have failed to reach a consensus. Information trickling in from the chamber reveals that, sitting has been suspended due to the absence of almost half of Members of the including the leaders of both caucuses.
Earlier today, December 2, 2021, a former Deputy Health Minister and former Member of Parliament for the good people of Ledzokuku constituency, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye was interviewed alongside the verbose Sammy Gyamfi Esq on the Good Morning Ghana show hosted by Dr. Randy Abbey. The discussion turned out to be a heated one after Okoe Boye disagreed with a statement from Sammy Gyamfi.
According to Okoe Boye, the NDC lawmakers are acting as detractors of government businesses as they constantly oppose every policy measures in the budget. He explained that the lawmakers were elected to support government polices to better the lives of their constituents.
Dr. Okoe Boye indicated that, he gets worried over how the lawmakers from the camp of NDC have resorted to actions that would fetch their party political points. He boldly registered his disappointment over the kind of statements being made by leaders of the Minority Caucus threatening not to compromise.
Speaking further, Dr. Okoe Boye stated categorically that government's plans and decisions would only yield better reuskys when the budget is approved. He has theegore called on all the 275 lawmakers to work together to restore calmness in the Chamber. That notwithstanding, he could not hide his disappointment in the minority Caucus.
He said, "It is clear that all they do is to favor their party which is in opposition. As an opposition, you always criticise yet do not give any better alternatives. I am very disappointed in them. Sammy, let us be honest about your MPs because they failed."
