Afenyo-Markin - NDC Is Against E-levy Because They Are Afraid They’ll Lose 2024

Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has reiterated the point that the NDC is dead against the E-levy because of elections.

In a discussion on Citi TV’s The Point of View show hosted by Benard Koku Avle on March 21, 2022, the Effutu Member of Parliament said that the NDC knows the electronic levy would be a game changer for the ruling party in terms of building roads and other infrastructure.

“If we allow E-levy to pass, then they (NDC) would never win the election (2024)” the Honourable Member of Parliament for Effutu stated.

He emphasized that the E-levy would not only help the government to construct many roads but also help in creating jobs for the teeming youth.

This, he said, doesn’t sit well with the NDC. The NDC, he indicated, is afraid that if the E-levy is passed and these projects and programs are undertaken, would lose the 2024 elections.

His comments comes in wake of economic crisis, crippling Ghana and the Minority group in parliament persistent stand against passing of E-Levy. The minority believe the E-Levy will rather increase burdens on Ghanaians whilst the Majority believe it will widen the tax net for development.
