It was another lively discussion on TV3’s ‘New Day’ newspaper review session as the panelists discussed the comments about Osei Kyei Mensah regarding who should likely succeed President Akufo-Addo. Berla Mundi queried if the comments came at the right time and the consequences it had for the party.
According to Dr. Adu Gyamfi, a History and Political Science lecturer at the University of Science and Technology, this will not auger well for the party as it came at a wrong time. He was of the view that the party should move from the use of tribal qualities and rather move to the capabilities of the person.
He went on to add that these comments from Osei Kyei will hurt the reputation of Dr. Bawumia and it will be hard repairing that. He went ahead to conclude that If these continue the NDC will have an easy path to victory in 2024.
“If Osei Kyei feels that Bawumia is the best he had to wait till a later time before saying it. Within the NPP there are alliances. This is more like a party capture. They have to make sure that it doesn’t look like the party belongs to someone. It should be about who can hold the party. They should go beyond ethnic basis and rather be interested in nation building.
“I can say that if these things persist and the NDC are kind enough to themselves and bring the former president then he will win hands down. The 2024 elections will be based on the performance of this government” Adu Gyamfi said.
How justified were the comments of Osei Kyei Mensah?
