The former President John Dramani Mahama has been hit with grave accusations by the convener for the Fixing the Country Movement, Ernest Owusu Bempah. The outspoken politician described the former president as incompetent “even in opposition”, following an allegation by the latter that the Electoral Commission rigged the 2020 election in favour of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to Owusu Bempah the allegations as levelled by Mr Mahama during his Thank You tour about the conduct of the rather transparent election which he lost, as being fraught with manipulations by the government and the election management body, are baseless and without merit. He noted in a press statement issued today that the conduct of the former President stains the reputation of the office he occupies.
He indicated that the recent outburst by John Mahama is meant to cover up for his gross incompetence both in government and in leading the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into electoral victory.
"... Mr Mahama is showing gross incompetence even in opposition. His utterances and baseless rants highlight the weaknesses in our democracy and bring into contempt the office he once occupied,” he added.
Mr Owusu Bempah remarked that Ghanaians are fully aware of the propaganda John Mahama and his NDC have embarked to lure Ghanaians into a campaign of deception and a deliberate attempt to discredit the Electoral Commission. He mentioned that the founder of the NDC, late Jerry John Rawlings was fully aware of the ‘treacherous’ agenda Mahama had in undermining Ghana’s democracy and political ideals.
“The founder of the NDC, former President Rawlings saw through Mahama's antics and blew the lid off the 2024 agenda. It has always been about Mahama and his 2024 comeback. Mr Mahama is just clutching on straw and hoping to create a religion of conspiracy to undermine our democracy & ideas that challenge his politics”
Mr Bempah charged John Mahama to be adherent to constitutional process with regards to electoral disputes, lest be told in plain language that “touting these unfounded claims of election fraud without the willingness to follow the constitutional procedures is as horrible as Adolf Hitler’s propaganda stunts.”
