Mr Alan Kyerematen, in 2007 contested for the presidential leadership position of the New Patriotic Party in the primaries. He obtained 32.3% of the total votes. and came second to Nana Akufo-Addo, who received 47.96 percent of the votes. Mr Alan Kyerematen again contested for the NPP's leadership position in the years 2010 and 2014, but still was in the second position and again Akufo-Addo won the primaries. In 2017, Kyerematen was sworn in as Ghana's Trade Minister. He has again been appointed as the Minister for Trade and Industry currently.

In the 2008 elections, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was the running mate for the New Patriotic Party's presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo. In March 2012, Bawumia was re-appointed as vice presidential candidate for Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo in the New Patriotic Party. In the 2016 presidential race, Nana Akuffo Addo chose Bawumia again as his running mate. Currently, he is the vice president of the Republic of Ghana.
