Don't blame the EC for the loss of lives during 2020 election -Jean Mensa

Jean Mensah who is electoral commission chair made it clear at Ecowas meeting at Central region that, the 2020 election is the best election which have been held in the country's history. She continues that, BBC for the first time applaud the electoral commission for marvelous procedures they deploy for the 2020 election without any inconveniences comparing it to of just our last election. 

The cost of money which the State spend on every election scale down during 2020 election and not leaving the proper stages lay down in that election. Comparing the cost of 2020 election and that of 2016 election show clearly that indeed the cost was minimize.

According to the EC’s chair, Jean Mensah, in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, the cost per voter in the 2020 elections was reduced by half as compared to the expenditure for 2016 elections which he says led to a massive total savings of GH¢523,409,980 (million) or $90,243,100 (million).

“The cost per voter in the just ended 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections amounted to about GHS 40.78 translating into seven (7) US-Dollars seven (7) cents. He further added that “this is a drastic reduction from the previous cost of the exercise held in 2016, which was about GHS 70 translating into 13 dollars.”
