CDD kicks against the 100,000 Ghana cedis filing fees proposed by the E.C

Since the announcement of the Ghanaian Electoral Commission to request from presidential aspirant a sum of 100,000 Ghana cedis as filing fees, as well as 10,000 Ghana cedis from parliamentary candidates , voices not the least kick against the disposition of the Electoral Commission of Ghana led by Jean Mensa.

Some argue that the Electoral Commission has its budget already defined and approved by parliament of Ghana and therefore has no business to trigger a mechanism to generate a revenue as according to them, the commission is not G.R.A.

Others call on the commission to come back on its decision in order to allow ordinary Ghanaian willing to contest to effectively partake in the process.

In that regard Kojo Asante, Director of advocacy and policy engagement at CDD-Ghana criticized the move of the electoral commission as he recalled in an interview with the Joy News TV, how in other Jurisdictions, the filing fees for presidential and parliamentary aspirants represent nominal fees . "In USA you paid a nominal fee of 500 dollars" could he trigger towards the Electoral Commission.

His position is hammered by the presidential candidate for the Progressive Peoples' Party (PPP), Bridgitte Dzogbenuku, who admitted in PM Express, Joy News program, yesterday that she " cannot afford the fees"

What is your take on this ? Must E.C come back to its decision by reducing the filing fees ?
