Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service has disappointed students, parents and guardians of the final year students of Senior High Schools.
The final year students reported to school on 6th of April, 2021 just to be turn away that, the reopening date has been postponed.
This article will discuss the failure on the part of Ghana Education Service and what they should have done better.
The postponement of the reopening date has nothing to do with food and infrastructure as many Ghanaians claimed.
The postponement is a management failure on the part of the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service.
Before the School placements, heads of Senior High Schools were asked to declare vacancies available in their schools, the enrollment of SHS 1 students was done on a centralized database for all the Senior High Schools.
The placement form students submitted to the various schools for admission contains contact details of parents and guardians. With a click of a button GES will be able to send a message to all parents in the seven hundred Senior High Schools to inform them about the change of date.
Data management is a challenge for Ghana Education Service, as at now GES does have the actual enrollment figures in the Senior High Schools. They failed to plan ahead, the enrollment figures of the first year students is higher than the final year students and both batches cannot be in the school at the same period. The SHS 1 students are already overcrowded in the dormitories and classrooms.
