Debate Settled: Ghana Considered More Peaceful Under NPP As Compared To NDC

Ghana has always been considered as one of the most peaceful in the world. Many see the stable political stability in the country as one of the reasons for the peaceful and hospital nature of the country. In the 2021 global ranking of most peaceful countries according to Global Peace Index, Iceland came 1st followed by New Zealand, Denmark, Portugal and Slovenia completing the top 5.

The global Peace Index ranks countries based on level of security, domestic or international conflict and militarism. In Africa, Mauritius placed 1st with a global ranking of number 28. Ghana under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo follows 2nd and placed 38th on the world rankings. It is important to note that out of the 37 countries that come before Ghana, only 8 has a higher population as compared to Ghana. The others have fewer populations and so easier to manage. Check out the statistics of Ghana’s rankings on the African continent since 2008.

From the data it is obvious that Ghana has ranked higher in terms of peace in Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa during the times of the New Patriotic party. Many have argued that in Ghana there has been serious issues when it comes to security. The last few years has seen a number of unresolved murders with broad day light armed robbers on the rise. Is it then safe to conclude that Ghana has seen relative peace under the New Patriotic Party as compared to the National Democratic Congress?
