Election 2020 was full of mysteries and surprises. The worst of all the losses of Ministers of Parliament was that of a medical doctor and politician Dr Bernard Oko Boye who represented the Ledzokuku Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
The news struck my heart and I was saddened by the poor gesture of appreciation from the people of Ledzokuku. Dr Oko Boye was loved by many Ghanaians because of his severe degree of neutrality and intelligent submissions on matters of national discourse.
Even among the ministers in Parliament, some members from the opposition were equally sad for the loss of Dr Oko Boye. They said he was very vociferous on matters concerning the development of his constituency in Parliament house. There was a particular road that had been left abandoned for 20 years but it took the effort of Dr Oko Boye for the road to win the contract for construction.
It is quite unfortunate that during the Lockdown, he was willing to put his position on the line and force traditional leaders not to perform a traditional ritual that would have caused people to violate the Covid-19 social distance protocol. In a vengeance reaction from affected people from that move, he was voted against and that led to his loss.
But the President and many discerning Ghanaians have seen the potentials of the dedicated medical doctor and true patriot of the land. Former President John Agyekum Kufuor officially invited him to console and encourage him.
Look, the next day after he loss the seat, he was seen nowhere than the hospital where he works. Early morning, he was there taking care of patients and acting as though nothing has happened.
His colleague health workers, coupled with the available patients gathered around him and clapped for him continuously for good work done.
We thank God the President has seen his efforts and appointed him as Deputy Minister for Health. I am very delighted and I believe so are many Ghanaians.
