We Are Not Compiling A New Voters Register - EC Refuted Claim Made By The Minority In Parliament

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has refuted the claim that they have the intention of compelling new voters to register for the 2024 general election.

The said statement made by the Minority in parliament is untrue and should be disregarded.

They added that the old register that was used in the 2020 general election is still credible hence there is no need for the new one.

“We are not compiling a new voters’ register. The one we compiled in 2020 is credible, and a very good register so we are not dispensing it. But you and I are aware that people have been saying that, why don’t you roll out continuous registration so that when somebody turns 18, the person goes to our offices and register. They clearly stated.

They said that they are only coming out with a new constitutional instrument so that when one turns 18, he or she can go to their nearby district Offices with the Ghana card for registration.

This follows an allegation made by the Minority in parliament that the EC is compiling a new voters register ahead of the 2024 general elections which will cost Ghana 80 million dollars.
