There is so much mystery shrouded over how Ghana lost 70% of its Tema ports to French billionaire Vincent Bollore. The deal started under the John Mahama administration. President Akufo-Addo inherited the situation and instead of addressing the anomalies in the contract has looked on as his officials have taken up positions and made profit from the deal.
The Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP has however hit out hard at those involved in the deal and has cautioned his NPP friends to stay off the deal because it is dirty. He has also sounded an alarm to government to cancel the deal because it will not be in the best interest of Ghana.
“He has used deception to deceive Ghanaians and Parliament. Ghana was to receive 30% of proceeds. However, John Mahama managed to reduce the profit from 30 to 15% just for his own interests. We sit in this country and keep out. The NPP big wigs must cancel the contract. They need to expose Mahama for what he did. All the port duties are as a result of Meridian Port Services. The deal is not genuine. The French owner of MPS and John Mahama must be blamed for selling Ghana’s port.
Some few people in the NPP are also part. They love money and so are in support of the deal. The NPP big wigs behind MPS should be careful. If they don’t take care we will deal with them seriously. If they won’t cancel that contract, then restore Ibrahim Mahama’s bauxite to him. The deal with MPS is fraudulent. Cancel it or give back Ibrahim’s bauxite back to him because both are fraudulent” Abronye said.
Is the MPS deal worth it? Has the company increased port tariffs? Why is the government silent on this?
