All is set for the announcement of MMDCE nominees - Eugene Arhin

The Director of Communication at the Jubilee House has hinted that the long awaited list of MMDCE nominees has been finalized by the president and would be submitted to the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development for announcement.

"List of MMDCE nominees finalised by President Akufo-Addo ; it will be submitted in the morning to minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Hon Dan Botwe. Expect the list to be announced by the minister soon". He posted on his Facebook wall.

It has been over nine(9) months since the Nana Addo led administration was sworn in for the second time. However, the President has been unable to completely form his new government as the MMDCE nominations and other key appointments are yet to be made.

For this reason, the President has received loads of criticisms from his own party folks, the minority in parliament, the opposition parties and a number of Ghanaians as well.

The President on his tour in the Western North Region confirmed Yawson Amoah as the new and his first DCE nominee for the Akontombra District. The President again mentioned at the occasion that committees had been set up at both regional and national levels to make recommendations for him.

President Akufo-Addo also dispelled claims that there is currently a vacuum in local government as the minority in parliament had claimed.

According to him, the delay in nominating Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly Chief Executives had not in anyway hampered development in the country.

He hinted that the list of MMDCE nominees was going to be announced later in the month of September 2021.

Meanwhile, some staff of the local government service have expressed worries in the delay in the release of the District Assemblies Common Fund.

"For four quarters running, there hasn't been any payment of the District Assemblies Common Fund to any Assembly in Ghana. We are starved of funds, for this reason, development has also stalled". A staff who doesn't want his identity revealed, lamented.
