The country is on crossroads and many things seems to be plaguing the country. This week has seen President Akufo-Addo authorizing 200 soldiers to storm galamsey sites around the River Pra. Yesterday, an update on Operation Halt was presented to the public. Two Chinese were arrested with a number of equipment burnt.
Many are however pessimistic about the new move of the government. Many feel Operation Halt will just end up like Operation Vanguard which ended with missing excavators and a return to galamsey. Today, Saturday, May 1, 2021, Afia Pokua, host of UTV’s ‘Critical Issues’ threw shots at President Akufo-Addo. According to her mere words are not enough to stop galamsey.
“The corruption in this government are worse than those of Rawlings. Ghanaians themselves are corrupt. For me I have stopped complaining about electricity and water. See the number of people blasting Sam Jonah. Some NPP foot soldiers are just on social media insulting. People will be insulted to keep mute. That is the culture of silence. And you expect Osei Despite to talk?
People want to serve Ghana but they fear the insults. President Akufo-Addo we are with you in the galamsey fight. We don’t want mere words or big English. Mr. President, be bold. I even pity you because people are working behind you to conduct galamsey. Mr. President, give an order that any DCE or leader will be arrested if galamsey is spotted in their area. Otherwise you can send 1000 soldiers and still nothing will happen” Afia Pokua said.
Do you agree with Afia Pokua? Will the new offensive against galamsey work?
