Today, Tuesday, May 25, 2021 is Africa Union Day and in Ghana, the Fix the country hashtag is trending. Many are calling on the government to fix the country before calling on citizens to fix themselves. Law maker for Assin Central is currently in the United States. This afternoon he phoned in on Asempa FM’s ‘Ekosii Sen’ to share his thoughts on issues bothering the country.
According to Kennedy Agyapong, he has no issues when Ghanaians ask for the country to be fixed. His problem however is when instead of Ghanaians working as a whole to build the country, rather point fingers at only politicians. He cited a report he received about a worker at the Kotoka International Airport. According to the law maker, the guy swindles passengers of 50 cedis and makes it look like the money is going to government.
“There one guy at the Kotoka International Airport. Do you know what he does? At the point where foodstuffs are checked before boarding, he takes 50 cedis from passengers and uses government stickers on the foodstuffs going out. He then sends a memo to his own phone as though it is for the government. I have his name here. Imagine if he does this to even 20 people a day.
When I come to Ghana I will give out his name. He should even start packing his things to lose his job. I have the receipts, phone numbers and memo. I will make sure he is sacked. So I agree that we should fix the country. but to point hands at government officials I disagree. Immediately, I come I will send the evidence to Mr. Akoto or whoever in in charge at the airport. We need to fix ourselves before blaming the government” Hon. Agyapong told Osei Bonsu.
Fix the country or fix yourself?
