On 6 January 2021 at exactly 12:00, the law house in Ghana sat down to elect the 7th speaker of parliament. After a few hours pass, the vote was cast and the opposition party NDC candidate Alarn Bagbin had 139 and his opponent had 135.
Per the declaration of the results the NDC is said to control the legislative system in Ghana while the NPP control the executive system in Ghana.
The newly elected speaker of the 8th parliament discharge his first duty on electing his first deputy speaker of parliament in which the Member of parliament for Bekwai in the Ashanti region Hon. Lawyer Joseph Osie Owusu ( populary known as Joe wise) was handed over the mantle to.
In addition, he also appointed the second deputy speaker of parliament where Dr. Lawyer Andrews Amoako, the MP for Fomena was given the position.
