Ghana should not take in Afghan refugees for any reason, UN security analyst advises

Saturday, August 28 2021

A security analyst with the Kofi Anan International Peace Keeping Training Centre (KAIPKTC), Dr. Vladimir Antwi Danso has advised the Government of Ghana not to be tempted to take in refugees from Afghanistan for whatever reason. The international security analyst gave this caution statement during an interview on Midday Live on TV3 yesterday monitored by CitizenOne.

Dr. Antwi Danso explained that the disturbances in Afghanistan was the cause of the United States and that country should be held responsible for any life that was lost from the disturbances. According to him, the Talibans were ruling Afganistan until the US overthrew them and falsed a new government on Afghans in 2002. This followed the 9/11 attack of World Trade center.

The renowned security expert observed that the millitary take over by the US was unnecessary. He said, the Talibans unlike the IS, Alkaida and Boko Haram were not extremists. That all they did was to take back a government which was taken away from them some years ago. He was of the view that Afghans needed not to run away from their country because Talibans were not going to harm any Afghan citizen or genuine foreigner who stayed in the country.

Dr. Antwi Danso who was a member of the Justice Kinsley Koomson's committee that probed Ejura killing added that, unlike the Guantanamo bay detainees, Afghan refugees were weaponised refugees as such it was not safe to keep them in Ghana. He cautioned Rwanda, Uganda, Zimbabwe and other African countries who had decided to take in Afghan refugees to prepare to repatriate them back as soon as the disturbances settled.

Dr. Vladimir Antwi Danso described as exaggerative, the media reportage on Afghanistan disturbances.

It will be recalled that earlier this year, the Talibans started their journey into government once again by capturing territories around Islamabad and Kabul. This was barely 2 years after the president Sheikh Ashraf Ghani was re-elected to steer the Government of Afghans for the next five years. That tensed Election was supervised by Ghana's former Electoral Commission chairperson Dr. Charlotte Osei. President Ashraf obtained 50.9% of the total votes cast to retain his seat.

The Talibans eventually penetrated into the capital Kabul forcing the president to flee for his dear life. He has since sought for asylum in United Arab Emirates. Hundreds of Afgans have fled to neighboring countries as refugees.
