Assembly members of Sekyere Afram Plains district has endorsed the president's nominee Mr. Sulemana Hamidu as the new district chief executive for the young district. Out of the 15 assembly members present, 14 voted yes while only one voted no to Sulemana's endorsement. This mean the former NPP constituency chairman secured over 93% of the total votes cast.
Moments after the election, a section of the natives took to social media to speculate that the assembly members took bribe from the nominee before confirming him. According to some of the youth, the assembly members demanded for an amount of GHC 5000.00 each from the nominee. But the trained teacher pleaded with them to reduce the amount. They eventually agreed on GHC 4000.00 each.
The netizens therefore concluded that, the innocent man had been initiated to corruption already. An NPP activist who spoke exclusively to CitizenOne on anonymity expressed disappointment in the foregoing. He said the poor teacher had already spent so much during the nominations and to charge him GHC 4000.00 for 15 assembly members mean one project has already suffered in the district.
But one of the assembly members denied the allegation. Mr. Peter Mayim who is the assembly man for Drobonso Electoral area told CitizenOne that per the assembly practice, sitting allowances are paid to each member anytime the was a meeting. "This is exactly what happened", he stated. Even though he refused to disclose the amount involved, Peter said the amount was enough to cover their transportation back to their various electoral areas.
All attempts to get the new DCE Hon. Sulemana Hamidu speak to this allegation proofed futile. CitizenOne shall continue to press on until we hear from the new DCE who replaces the former dean of all MMDCEs in Ghana, Hon. Joseph Owusu. You may follow me to receive all updates automatically.
