The booing of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Global Citizens Festival has been characterized by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a vote of no confidence.
The party's national communications director, Sammy Gyamfi, claims that the booing is an obvious indication that the youth no longer have faith in the current leadership.
He claimed that the "action of the youth reflects an overwhelming vote of no confidence" in the government in a statement that was forwarded to the media.
The events of that day were unprecedented because no Ghanaian President in office, at least during the Fourth Republic, has ever experienced such mockery and humiliation.
The opposition party claimed that this was "not only insulting to Ghanaians' sensibilities but also underscores the fact that this government and their hired apologists are simply unaware of our current reality, or perhaps they are underestimating the anger of the Ghanaian people."
The party continued, "The frustrations expressed by the youth on that fateful day perfectly reflect the agonizing and frustrating times Ghanaians currently find themselves in."
The NDC further argued that the youth's disaffection highlighted the need for a plan to create long-lasting and significant jobs.
On Saturday, September 26, 2022, during the musical festival at Black Stars Square, a portion of the audience heckled and jeered President Akufo-Addo.
The President spoke about poverty and the efforts being made by the government to end it while promoting and upholding national unity.
