We Still Prefer Adwoa Safo Dome - Kwabenya Constituents

Constituents of the Dome-Kwabenya constituency insist they prefer Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Sarah Adwoa Safo over Mike Oquaye Junior.

The constituents say Mike Ocquaye Junior is stingy and does not extend helping hand to people in the constituency.

For close to a year now the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency has been without its MP, Adwoa Safo, who has been away in the United State reportedly attending to personal matters.

Several attempts have been made to get her back to her job as the MP for Dome-Kwabenya and also as the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

Failing to get her back, President Akuffo-Addo finally gave in to pressure from members of his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and some Ghanaians to sack her from her role as the Gender Minister.

Parliament is also currently deliberating on a report laid before the house by the privileges committee which has found Adwoa Safo to have absented herself for more than 15 days from parliamentary sittings, against the regulations of the house.

The Majority in Parliament, who are in the same political party with Adwoa Safa, are pushing the Speaker of the house, Alban Bagbin to declare her seat vacant.

The Majority is pushing for her sack because of the numbers in Parliament which currently stands at 136 for either side of the house minus Adwoa Safo and the NDC's Assin North MP, who has been barred from holding himself as MP by the Supreme Court.

Should the speaker declare Dome-Kwabenya seat vacant, a bye-election will have to be conducted in the Constituency and the NPP is likely to retain the seat to increase their numbers to 137.

Even before the seat is declared vacant several members of the NPP have started preparing the grounds to take over from the beleaguered MP.

One of such persons is Mike Ocquaye Jr, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones.

But Mr Ocquaye Jr, who has been courting the Dome-Kwabenya seat for more than 12 years since 2012, appears not to be in the good books of voters in the constituency.

Voters from areas such as Pillar 2, Taifa, Musuku Roundabout, Mr. Adjei, Ashongman Estate and Dome have, in unison, said they will still vote against him should he contest.

They accused him of being "Chisel" and not helping people in the constituency.
