Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah (information minister) and other officials from the Volta River Authority (VRA), Ghana Grid Company (GridCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have surveyed the ongoing project works at Pokuase substation.
The project is however, funded by the United States Government through its Agency, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and also part of the US$ 308 million Ghana Power Compact.
To improve in the quality of the power supply, to the northern part of the greater Accra Region, the two bodies are therefore in collaboration in supporting the Bulk Power Supply construction.
The project was commenced in April 2019 in order to resolved the challenges pertaining to power supply which include low voltagws as a result of high power demand in Accra and frequent intermittent power outages in the Greater Accra Region. The quality of power supply and reliability in Pokuase, Kwabenya, Legon, Nsawam and its environs will be improved significantly as expected after completion of the project.
The outcome expectations of the project is to decrease the technical power losses in the Ghana Grid Company(GRIDCo) transmission system and the PDS power distribution, which will eventually in turn improve the financial capabilities of the utilities. The Technical Controller at Millennium Development Authority (MIDA) Ing, William Amuna has disclosed that the Pokuase substation ongoing project is about 95% in completion.
According to William Amuna, the Technical Controller at Millennium Development Authority (MIDA) Ing, The Pokuase substation ongoing project is expected to be completed by July/August 2021.
Jonathan Amoako- Baah who is also the Chief Executive Officer for the Ghana Grid Company (GridCo) also revealed that official within the power supply chain do intentionally turn of power supply to the various individual homes.
