Minority Worries About Alleged Transfer Of Ameri Power Plant By Government

The alleged government transfer of the American Power Plant to Kumasi for $35 million has alarmed the minority in Parliament.


The ranking member of the Mines and Energy Committee, Mr. John Abdulai Jinapor, voiced concerns about the government's attempt to transfer the plant to private organizations rather than the original plan to transfer the plant to the Volta River Authority during a press conference on Wednesday at Parliament House in Accra.

Mr. Abdulai Jinapor expressed worry regarding government measures to hike electricity costs.

He claimed that this would make the already difficult economic circumstances that the Ghanaian people were facing worse.


John Jinapor is the Member of Parliament for the Yapei-Kusawgu electoral district. He is the first indigenous MP in Ghana and the first MP from the Ashanti region.


John Jinapor is a lawyer and a political activist. He was the Ashanti Regional Coordinator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and he was the Ashanti Regional Coordinator for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).


John Jinapor was elected to Parliament in the 2017 general elections, representing the Yapei-Kusawgu electoral district. He is the first indigenous MP in Ghana and the first MP from the Ashanti
