The President of the land, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in a few months ago rented luxurious Airbus AC320neo. The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa came out with a revelation that this aircraft cost £15,000 per hour. So for Akufo-Addo's travel to France, Belgium and South Africa, the crying Ghanaian taxpayer-paid about $500,000 equivalent to GHS 2.8 million for these travels.
After this Minority in Parliament demanded an explanation for this extravagant spending. The Defense Minister, Dominic Nitiwul came out with a statement that Ghana presidential jet is not convenient for the president because he cannot even bathe in it. The Finance Minister, Hon Ken Ofori-Atta could not give parliament the actual cost of the president travels. Meaning the allegation from Ablakwa was true.
Ghanaians after hearing this information descended on President Akufo-Addo for neglecting the basic necessities of Ghanaians and used the state resources for luxurious travels. Ghanaians thought that the complaining and the insult will change the President but they didn't. A report according to Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa reveals that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo did not use Ghana's presidential jet for his travel to the United Kingdom (UK) and Germany.
According to Okudzeto Ablakwa, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo rented another top of the range VIP luxury charter jet specifically known as 737-900ER BBJ3 for his travel to the UK on 27th July 2021. The Luxembourg-based aircraft is registered LX-DIO and operated by Global Jet Luxembourg. Its Manufacturer Serial Number (MSN) is 62515 with Line Number 5659. Ablakwa added that this luxurious jet is a 19-seater jet that has a VIP lounge, five-star dining facilities, a Royal Master bedroom, a Cinema room, and a luxurious shower.
The Member of Parliament said that this private jet cost US$14,000 to US$22,000 per hour. So let us use $14,000 per hour for the calculation. The two trips to the UK and Germany which require some 28 hours of travel distance in and out plus an additional 13 hours of pick up and drop off time, the taxpayer has been burdened again to the colossal tune of US$574,000.00. At the current exchange rate, that is a staggering 3.46million Ghana Cedis
Most Ghanaians after coming across this said that President Nana Addo Dankwa AKufo-Addo has no respect for the citizens anymore. He thinks that he is not going to be voted for again so he can do whatever he likes and nobody can do anything to him. This is the same President who begged Ghanaians to try him and see when he lost twice in a roll in the Presidential elections. Some Ghanaians asked whether there is a way to sue him in court for this extravagant spending.
