Akwasi Addae Odike Finally Apologizes To Otumfuo But Sends New 'Caution' To Ashanti Chiefs

For some weeks Akwasi Addae Odike has become one of the most talked about personalities in the country. Odike is a former presidential candidate. He became topical after he made certain comments on Kumasi based Oyerepa FM. The FM station was forced to halt work and later made to apologize to the Kumasi Traditional Council.

Akwasi Odike was banished from Kumasi and also called to apologize. However, the apology didn’t come. According to the 2012 presidential candidate, he cannot apologize to the traditional council when he has been banished. He explained that the apology needs to be in person and so he coming back to apologize without the banishment lifted puts a threat on his life.

On Onua Maakye today, Monday, September 12, 2022, Akwasi Odike joined Captain Smart to discuss the issue of galamsey. According to Odike he didn’t realize he had erred but noted that if the Traditional Council feels he erred then he was apologized. Odike asked to be forgiven and promised to do to better.

Interestingly, Odike sent a new caution to the Asante Chiefs. He boldly stated that despite his apology he will not relent in speaking the truth and calling on the chiefs to help stop galamsey. He called on the Asantehene to help fight galamsey because the illegality has become even more attractive. According to Odike he was ready to join the freedom fighters in the country to ensure that galamsey is clamped down. He raised issues as to why lands in the Ashanti region is being sold to people destroying the land and called for accountability.

Odike might have apologized but it is yet to be seen if the apology will be taken. Some may argue that his explanations after apologizing tantamount to justifying his actions. Time will tell if the Kumasi Traditional Council will revoke the banishment and make Odike come before them for a proper apology.
