After the long wait, the President of the Republic of Ghana has released the list of all the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCE). This was after nine (9) months of wait and Ghanaians couldn’t keep calm about the appointment.
After the release of the MMDCE, there has been some arrests and demonstration from the public. Places like Chereponi and Odododiodio have refused to accept the official appointed to their constituency. In the Odododiodio constituency, 4 ringleaders of the demonstration have been arrested.
This left Johnnie Hughes wondering exactly what kept the President from releasing the list which would generate this drama. I mean, all this while, we thought the President had people doing the broader consultations and investigations to circumvent protest and resistance like this, but if people are angry and still agitating, then the nine months wait was a waste of time.
Johnnie pleaded that the President should keep his promise to the people. The President told Ghanaians prior to the election 2016 that he will ensure that MMDCEs’ will be voted for. But it’s been five (5) years and there is no show about that. “We beg you, Mr President, please keep your promise and let the people vote for their own MMDCEs. We beg you”- Johnnie Hughes Pleaded.
Meanwhile, the protest is still on and voting will commence at the local level to ascertain the love for the appointed official or refusal.
