Volta MPs Caucus fume over 'distasteful' and most 'reprehensible' textbooks

A letter signed by Chairman, Volta MPs Caucus Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah indicating Volta MPs Caucus condemned ethnocentric publications.

The Volta MPs Caucus of Ghana's Parliament has taken notice of a published book in circulation for the study of Ghana's history in basic school. The said book titled " History of Ghana " by Budu Nkansah publications surfaced on social media over the weekend with aspects of its content being shared by millions of Ghanaians across the globe.

The Caucus has also taken of the public outrage and content. We have also sighted a purported apology by the publishers for the offensive tone which sought to target the Ewe people of Ghana.

According to them, " it is important to state unequivocally from the onset as a Caucus that the content of this book is distasteful, backward, unacceptable and most reprehensible. We also find the publication to be part of a grand scheme to certain individuals to deliberately denigrate, vilify, indoctrinate and also poison the minds of young people against the Ewe people of Ghana.

The publication also feeds into a rather negative narrative by some individuals who have over the years used as their weapon, sophisticated and subtle sociocultural orchestrations to cause hatred, dislike and disaffection against the Ewe people.

We are convinced that this is yet another calculated attempt at singling out a particular group of the larger Ghanaian populace for ridicule and derision. We also view the publication as a new strategy aimed at reintroducing a discredited prehistoric minset of tribal bigotry to the young people of 21st century Ghana".

Below is the letter.
