Some members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) from across all the 47 constituencies in the party’s stronghold of Ashanti are seething with anger and whining over failed promises and neglect by the leadership of the party.
They feel betrayed and they are swearing to create confusion at the party’s national delegates conference planned to be held in Kumasi.
They say if their leaders do not act quickly to address their concerns, they are going to stop the party’s delegates conference.
They are demanding their slice of the cake.
These furious and disenchanted members are drawn from various groups within the NPP such as the Adum petty traders, the Mamprusi youth association, motor riders and NAFOP.
They cannot understand why none of their members has been considered for any of the job opportunities in the security services and the other sectors.
They are particularly mad at the Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Bosiako, for not fighting for the interest of the party people, who fought in the trenches to bring the party to power in year 2016 and retained government in power in the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.
They feel betrayed after the promises made to them had gone unfulfilled. Dr. Mohammed Issah Ababio, their spokesperson, told journalists, when they massed at the party’s regional office in Kumasi, to send a message to the leadership that they have had enough of the disrespect and the tricks they have been playing on them, that the party had turned its back on them.
The NPP since its assumption of political power on January 7, 2017, has not been fair to the identifiable groups within the party, whose members were in the trenches and fought to bring the party to power.
He said the “NPP has turned its back on all identifiable groups who have worked hard to bring the party to power.
We have gained nothing from the NPP since we toiled for the party to assume the reins of power in 2016. We are currently at the NPP party office, and we have a place here.
We are here to ask Chairman Wontumi, who is the Regional Chairman, that has there not been any benefit for the party’s identifiable groups since 2016?”.
He spoke of the engagements they had had with top government officials and the promises they made to them which had all gone unfulfilled.
He said they were giving the leadership of the party one week to address their concerns or to look for another to hold their national delegates conference.
Ashanti has traditionally remained loyal to the NPP and has been voting massively for the party in national elections.
