Editor-in-chief of the Insight Newspaper and member of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Kwesi Pratt Junior has expressed worry and disappointment over the European Union Observer team's report on the 2020 general elections.
Earlier last week, the European Union observer mission released a 94-page report on the 2020 elections and described the just ended elections as free and fair with minor infractions. Reacting to the issue on Pan Africa TV's Alhaji and Alhaji political show, Mr. Pratt said he was sad about Ghana's situation after 63 years of independence that we still wait for our colonial masters to draft hopeless and useless reports after elections.
"I feel very deeply sad about this situation. A 63 year old country will wait for an European Union report after election. It is more worrying that whatever we do in this country, we seek validation from our colonial masters. Their report is absolutely hopeless and useless. It tells us nothing about the elections and we don't need them to tell us what was wrong or right about the elections".
Mr. Pratt again said, if we don't stop looking for validation from countries and institutions like the European Union, we will always be kept poor. "We have allowed them to take everything that we have and the only people who can make the country better are the Ghanaian people. Colonialist cannot be talking to us about democracy because they don't know democracy".
The report accused government of abusing incumbency and misusing state resources to their advantage. Contrary to the claims of the NDC, the report again rebutted the issue of a rigged elections and described the elections as largely fair.
