Nobody Has The Right To Manhandle Journalists - Social Commentator

The media as the fourth arm of government ought to be revered just like the other three ---- the legislature, executive and the judiciary. The media serves as that branch of government which ensures that the issue of checks and balances amongst the aforementioned organs is upheld.

Current Best Journalist Of The Year 2019, host of JoyNews' NewsFile and renowned legal practitioner, Samson Lardi made a remarkable point on his show last Saturday when the issue of journalists and their safety was brought up for discussion.

Present as a phone in guest was Mr. George Sarpong who shared the same opinion with other pundits that journalists were entitled to the best of security across the length and breadth of the country.

Mr. George Sarpong and the other panelists unanimously remarked;

"Pray - Today is International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists (IDEI)

"Journalists are essential in preserving the fundamental right to freedom of expression, guaranteed by Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. When journalists are attacked with impunity, there is a breakdown in security and judicial systems for all."

Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO on the occasion of the IDEI for Crimes against Journalists 2020".
