It was a heated spectacle today on UTV's morning show "Adekye Nsroma as two outspoken communicators from the camp of the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress met to discuss some topical issues in the country.
As usual, the airwaves are always filled with politicians every morning to educate and inform the public on matters of interest.
The two individuals were; Kwaku Boahen, Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress, and Jennifer Oforiwaah Queen, Deputy National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party.
Among the issues under discussion was the illegal mining menace that has bedeviled mining communities in the country.
Jennifer Oforiwaah Queen of the NPP indicated that the attitude of Ghanaians was making the fight against illegal mining more difficult because the same Ghanaians connive with foreigners to go to the mining sites and end up destroying water bodies and the land. She insisted that the sector Minister was never relenting in his effort to bring the practice of illegal mining to an end. She accused the major opposition party of having a hand in the menace and hampering the government's efforts. She called out Kwaku Boahen and said he was also engaged in illegal mining and that the government was going to burn all machinery being used by his cohorts in the illegal mining.
This got Kwaku Boahen incensed and warned that he was going to sue Jennifer Oforiwaah Queen if she continues to wrongly accuse him of engaging in illegal mining. He argued that he only served as a Consultant for legal mining companies and not entities that engaged in illegal mining.
" I have told you I have never engaged in any illegal mining. I do not want to take you to court. I was only a mining consultant for legal mining entities and not otherwise. Have you ever seen me engaging in any illegal mining? I will take you to court. I will let my lawyers handle you if you do not stop the false allegations", Kwaku Boahen reiterated.
In response, Jennifer Oforiwaah Queen said; "You can take me to court and I would also meet you with my lawyers. When you were in power and you were accused of engaging in "galamsey", why did you not come out to deny it. You were too big to respond by then? If you take me to court, I would meet you there".
The host, Agya Kwabena eventually intervened and calm was restored after which the program proceeded smoothly. Jennifer Oforiwaah Queen served notice that the government, through the sector Minister was not going to relent in their effort to end the illegal mining menace.
