On Monday April 19, 2021, the Central Regional Minister, Hon. Mrs Justina Marigold Assan was joined by the Minister of Information, Hon Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon Samuel Abu Jinapor and the Minister for Water and Sanitation, Hon Cecilia Abena Dapaah, to tour some water bodies in the Central Region.
The delegation visited the Sekyere Hemang water treatment plant which supplies water to many parts of the Central Region as well as the Daboase water treatment plant that supplies water to parts of Central and Western Regions.
They did a thorough assessment on the impact of illegal gold mining, popularly known as galamsey, which poses a threat to the survival of all water bodies.
The problem that the illegal mining (Galamsey) is having on our environment is alarming.
The Government of Ghana is doing all it can to savage the damning impact that the illegal mining (Galamsey) has brought on our water bodies.
