Nana Akuffo Addo's travel to Serbia has been met with mixed reactions from Ghanaians. The President has left the shores of the country on Sunday, October 10, to attend the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the Non- Aligned Movement in Serbia. His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo is the leader of the Ghana delegation to the anniversary which is being held in Belgrade, Serbia. The Non-aligned Movement is the second largest international organization that comes next to only the United Nations Organization. Historically, the first president of Ghana, Osagefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, was among the founding leaders.
However, some Ghanaians believe the President attaches more importance to events outside the country than equally important events in the country. Some raised concerns about how the President failed to grace the events held to honor teachers during the world teachers day celebration in the country. The Chairman of GNAT, Philipa Larson, lamented how the teachers felt disrespected when the First Gentleman of the country, refused to attend the event.
Others maintained that the President is draining the financial resources of the country by his constant travels outside the country. Since Honourable Okudzeto Ablakwa subjected the cost the President incurred during his travels outside the country to scrutiny, a section of the public accuse Nana Addo of what they call wasting the taxpayer's money. The public bashing of the Presidency moved from bad to worse when it was announced that plans were far advanced to purchase a new presidential jet. It is a popular opinion from the public that there are more pressing needs than acquiring a new presidential jet for the country.
Meanwhile, those who felt the President is efficiently managing the economy took the opportunity to appreciate him for his good works and wished him a safe trip.
