List of the youngest President in Ghana's history

According to Chapter 8, Article 62 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, a person shall not be qualified for election as the president of Ghana unless he or she is a citizen of Ghana by birth and also has attained the age of forty years.

However, before Ghana's constitution was made in 1992, there are several Presidents who came to the office below the said age. 

In today's article, let us look at the youngest person to become the President of Ghana.

Jerry John Rawlings is the longest-serving president in Ghana. He was in power for more than nineteen years. He was the youngest President in Ghana.

He was born on 22nd June 1947 and died on 12th November 2020. He first became the president of Ghana on 4th June 1979. He was in power for 112 days. As of 4th June 1979, he was 31 years old. He is the youngest person to be a president in Ghana. He deposed Fred Akuffo to become the president at that time.

June 4th, 1979 one of the memorial days in Ghana's history. The entire nation went up in uproar. The soldiers rounded up senior military officers including three former heads of state, General F. K Akuffo, Ignatious Kutu Acheampong, and Afrifa for trial. They were subsequently executed by firing squad.

Rawlings was succeeded by Hilla Limann on 24th September 1979.
