The public presentation and introduction of the two new books on president Mohammadu Buhari's legacies is presided over by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
The event took place on Friday, May 19 at the State House Conference Center in Abuja. Other notable attendees included Senate Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, Bola Tinubu, the President-elect, and Sen. Kashim Shettima, the Vice President-elect.
The books launched, The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari by Abu Ibrahim and Antony Goldman's State of Repair: How Mohammadu Buhari Tried to Transform Nigeria for the Better were released. The former governor of Ekiti State Kayode Fayemi and the learned Prof. Abubakar Sadique gave the book critiques with skill. They made an effort to elevate the conversation by bringing depth and rigor to it.
Kayode Fayemi, the book reviewer stated Buhari departs office by emphasizing his accomplishments without downplaying his struggles. He said, “In his view, president Buhari entered and is leaving office with security as Nigeria’s biggest challenge but the challenge has changed significantly.
President Nana Akufo-Addo, who is presiding over the event, said that President Buhari will be missed by Africa in his remarks. He said, ‘as leaders we all have our high and low moments, but I have no doubts that posterity will be kind to Mohammadu Buhari.’ Immediately following that statement, he was applauded. He continued by saying, “President Buhari, we will miss you. The world will miss your leadership.” The statement made by the chairman of the occasion sparked a lot of heat on the internet The majority of Nigerians did not find that assertion to be credible, and many have mocked him on Twitter.
Here are some few tweets:
[@drealOlomo]” Ghana can have him. We won’t miss him a second
[@samiza84]” How do these guys sleep at night.
[@DELLcollections]” Oga speak for yourself and country o God forbid that we miss Buhari. Because with the one that is likely to takeover, what you said might just be apt.
[@Mrcooltemper2]” Ghanaian president if you know what people are passing through you won’t make such statement. But I put it to you that no one in Nigeria will miss Buhari.
