Sammi Awuku And Chairman COKA Join Bawumia’s Camp To Tour Northern Region

COKA, Sammi Awuku join Bawumia's tour of the Northern Region

Some leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) joined Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s team to tour the Northern Region of Ghana over the weekend.

Notable among the NPP bigwigs who toured the region with the Vice President Sammi Awuku, Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, alias Chairman COKA, who contested for the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship position in the party’s last internal primaries.

Although Sammi Awuku is a known supporter of Dr Bawumia’s bid to lead the NPP, Chairman COKA’s presence at the tour is raising questions.

During the Ashanti Regional primaries, Chairman COKA was rumoured to be supporting Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwoa Kyeremanten’s bid as NPP flagbearer for election 2024.

However, his tour of the Northern region with Dr Bawumia is making people question whether he has ditched Mr Kyeremanten’s camp.

The New Patriotic Party have elected their executives from across the various levels of the party with the Presidential candidate position the only slot left to be filled.

Several top members of the party have expressed interest in leading the NPP into the forthcoming presidential election in Ghana as candidates.

The main contenders so far are Dr Bawumia and Alan Kyeremanten with the likes of Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko lurking in the shadows.

The Vice President was on a two-day tour of the Northern Region, which saw him visit the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi to pay homage to the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Naa Abubakari Mahama II.
