Tyrone Marhguy’s case has been dismissed by the court.
This was after the two parties (Marhguy and his Rastafarian group and Achimota school) failed to agree on a common goal to either cut their hair in other to be enrolled or to be accepted in the school with their Rasta hair as their religion and faith demands.
As the school couldn’t compromise their rules and regulations to admit the young Rasta students, the Rastafarians sent the case to court and today, the case was opened for hearing as it was presided over by justice Gifty Agyei Addo.
Tyrone Marhguys case was apparently dismissed by the court.
Some Ghanaians however were glad as they commended the court for giving such a great ruling others also have been angered by the ruling given by the court and therefore have expressed their disappointment on social media.
Read some of them below;
Star103.5FM on twitter wrote that Honorable Peter Loobu MP for Wa West said that “I have heard a lot of discussions on the Achimota issue and I think sometimes we worship mediocrity. I think we believe in rituals. If a principle is 50 years old, we should review and change it”.
Bush @akakaduro also commented that “what precedence? That a school should compromise its core values to suit you? Didn’t he read their prospectus and code of discipline? You wanna be a student of Achimota, be in line. Will he sue the nursing and midwifery council if he decides to enroll? Cmon”.
Vlad the impaler @ kyoka also replied @ gyaigyimii that “realistically, it will take a miracle to win this case. Achimota no be small school oo… and as the alumini dey the school inn back, winning this case go hard ruff… African justice system no dey care about what’s right… they care about what is acceptable”.
