Prof. Adei under fire for calling for 50% salary cut of teachers

Renowned Professor Emeritus Stephen Adei has come under fire for calling for 50% salary reduction for teachers in Ghana as they continue to stay home in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He made the call on Joy New's Upfront with Winston Amoah on Thursday in reaction to teachers' call on the government not to reopen school now since the Covid 19 pandemic has not yet been brought under total control.

However has comments has attracted comments from several people. some such comments are below;

"Nurses are relieved of their taxes for doing their work, no one is complaining. Teachers are observing directives from president and all eyes on them..."

"...Well I'm very happy to let you know that, no teacher is happy to be at home. For the simple reason that teachers are not lazy people and teachers are parents too. Teachers have their own children in the house instead of being in school. I am also very sorry to tell you that teachers are very much disappointed in you..."

"The Pro is co-founder of Ghana Christian International High School, a Private school. Is his motive based on profit instead of sound health advise?"

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has also reacted to Prof Adei's call. The ministry through is deputy public relations officers, Kwasi Obeng-Fosu, has stated that, since teachers did not call for schools to be closed the cannot suffer salary reduction.
