Dissident Ghanaian based American investigative Journalist and self acclaimed youth activist and anti-corruption campaigner, Kelvin Ekow Taylor has waded into reactions concerning the Supreme Court's ruling on the application filed by Mahama to reopen his case. In a highly disappointed manner, he registered his displeasure over the decision made by the Court.
According to Kelvin Taylor, Mahama only stormed the Supreme Court to ensure that the right thing is done and that the Electoral Commission to prove her integrity to Ghanaians. He asserts that, the ruling so far is becoming apparent that the court cannot provide justice. The dissident broadcaster also jumped to the defense of Dr. Dominic Ayine who has been chided by most Ghanaians over his after Court commentary.
This comment follows after the Supreme Court in a ruling unanimously dismissed an application filed by the Petitioner, Mahama to be granted a leave to reopen his case and subpoena Jean Mensah. Prior to the ruling, Laywer Tsatsu Tsikata argued that there are some matters that only the EC Chairperson can speak to.
However, an objection had been raised by two Counsels for the Respondents who argued that, if the application is to adduce new evidence then Mr. Mahama has failed to meet the legal threshold. The 7-Member panel presided over by Chief Justice Annin Yeboah dismissed the application.
Kelvin Taylor reacting to the ruling on his televised With All Due Respect show last, he fumed over the decision and sent a strong message to express his disappointment over the ruling. Kelvin Taylor has been tagged as a pro NDC Journalist due to his constant attacks on the current Akuffo Addo-led government.
"Ghanaians are only interested in knowing the truth. In this situation, we expected that the Chief Justice himself would force Jean Mensah to testify to Ghanaians but this never happened. I am highly disappointed in you. How can this be possible? As at now, Ghana is under pressure because someone cannot tell us who actually won and with what figures."
"The Supreme Court owes the people of Ghana some kind of responsibilities to make sure the right thing is done irrespective of the rules and regulations. The only thing now is to compel Jean Mensah to testify. What is stopping the Chief Justice and the Supreme Court? It only happens when you are political!"
