The citizenship status of the MP who was declared winner during the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections for Assin North Constituency, Mr. Joe Gyakye Quayson was questioned few weeks after the elections. A case was then filed against the Assin North MP to prove that he held a dual citizenship status prior to the elections and this was against the Constitution of the country.

After several months of legal battle, the judgement of the court on the case was given today. The Cape Coast High Court declared the parliamentary election as null and void and called for a reelection. This judgement has sparked a lot of conversation on the internet. While some see the ruling of the court to be a very accurate and good one, others believe that the right thing was not done by the law court.
Some recounted a similar event which happened some few years back; the Adamu Sakande case where the said elected MP was treated in a similar fashion.

This means that total parliamentary seats for the NDC has dropped to 136 until the bye-election is held and an MP is elected.
