Presidential Jet Brouhaha: What Prez. Addo Said In 2000 In A Similar Situation; Ghanaians React

The 2000 Parliamentary Debate recorded indicates that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who was then the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa was strongly against the idea of purchasing a presidential jet.

The table has now turned and it is now the Akufo-Addo-led administration which wants to purchase another presidential jet; a bigger one according to reports. Indeed, whatever goes around comes around. The government is bent on purchasing a new jet even though there has been calls from well-meaning Ghanaians to use the existing presidential jet.

Member of Parliament, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has made it a point to bring the president's attention to protect the public purse by using the available presidential jet instead of going in for luxurious flights. The Member of Parliament has gone a step further to reveal to everyone what President Nana Akufo-Addo said about 21 years ago when the late Rawlings-led administration had wanted to purchase a presidential jet. Hon. Ablakwa posted a copy of the particular proceeding on his Facebook page.

The copy of the Parliamentary Debate Official Report is shown below:

According to the report as shown above, the then Abuakwa MP who is now the President of Ghana during the debate stated that the purchase of an Executive jet would come very low down on the scale of priorities as at that time if the priorities were to be properly spelt out. What has changed now? Several Ghanaians reacted to the post Hon. Ablakwa. Below is a few of them:

Many commended the Member of Parliament for going into the archives to bring to the general public, the statements of the current president when there was a similar situation some years ago.

Where does acquiring a new presidential jet sit on the scale of priorities if our priorities are spelt out properly now? What is your opinion on purchasing a new presidential jet as proposed by the current administration? Share your thoughts with us by leaving all your comments below.
