The Battle Line Is Drawn; Ken Ofori Atta “Dares” NAPO

“Tension” may be brewing between the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta and the Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh after the latter made a declaration on radio regarding the 2022 budget.

For most Ghanaians, there is a growing anxiety and only the end would justify that anxiety.

Now, let’s dig deep into the matter.

Somewhere last week, the Minister of Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh granted an interview on Asempa FM and was asked about the 2022 budget and the additions the they are calling on the government to make as per their conditions before approval. One of their major calls was for the government to include the Keta sea defense wall in the budget.

Speaking on the matter the Energy Minister said; “There has been flooding in the Ashanti region for a long time and still, the region did not find it’s way into the budget. When the NDC was in power, they never added the regional flooding issue in their budget and now they want to force the NPP to put their stronghold in the budget? If the Finance Minister dares and add Keta to the budget, I would personally lead a demonstration in the Ashanti region against it”.

Well, fortunately and unfortunately, what NAPO feared has come to pass because the Finance Minister has presented modifications to the 2022 budget to Parliament and it has been accepted by the house. There are indications that the Keta sea defense wall project has been added.

It is believed that these modifications are to convince the minority to support the 2022 budget especially the e-levy that has become the bone of contention.

The big question is, will NAPO proceed with the demonstration?
