Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, MP for Kwadaso and Kwesi Pratt clashed on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana today, Wednesday, July 6, 2022 over the government’s decision to go to the IMF. The two panelists were engaged by Dr. Randy Abbey, host of the show. According to Kwesi Pratt, Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, it is erroneous for the government to make Ghanaians believe that global circumstances are the cause of Ghana’s financial mess.
Mr. Pratt explained that the government has been wasteful and the monies they expect from the IMF might do little since the government has received much more monies and still not made use of it. Dr. Nyarko refused to accept this opinion and averred that Ghana hasn’t been wasteful but rather the government has had to deal with a lot of interventions and programmes.
He maintained that these projects have drained the country. interestingly, the learned PhD holder mentioned that the government had no option than to use monies in the coffers of the country to stabilize the country. in a sharp rebuttal, Kwesi Pratt than deduced that the bankruptcy of the coffers of Ghana was a deliberate agenda then since Dr. Nyarko insists they had to do everything to save the country.
This infuriated Dr. Nyarko who pointed out that Kwesi Pratt was putting words into his mouth because he never said anywhere that government deliberately drained then finances of Ghana. he corrected that he only said with the economy falling, government had to resort to any means to resuscitate the economy.
