The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Nkoranza South Constituency of the Bono East Region, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, is demanding punishment of police officers, who he claims, carried out an execution-style murder of a man they had arrested based on the suspicion that he was involved in a highway robbery attack.
The heavily armed police officers, said to be numbering about eight, had on Monday, April 25, 2022, reportedly seized Albert Donkor, who they believed was linked to a robbery attack on the Nkoranza-Kintampo road from his mum’s property at Kasadjan, in the Nkoranza Municipality, took him to the bush, shot and killed him and then carried the body in the bucket of police pick-up vehicle to Accra.
The MP who is the uncle of the deceased is mad with rage over the incident and insisting that his nephew was a victim of police targeted killing.
He is calling for an independent investigation by an international body to establish the full facts and to ensure that his slain nephew gets justice.
Kwadwo Agyekum rebuked the police for unprofessionalism and said people must be help accountable for the cruel murder of a man they had arrested and was in their custody.
He alleged that for three solid weeks after the police officers had carried out the summary execution – extrajudicial killing, they would not even have the courtesy to inform his family and that they only got to know what had happened when they went to the police intelligence unit.
The Nkoranza South MP said the family had already petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare.
The offending police officers must never be allowed to get away with the despicable and unprofessional act.
Elsewhere, they would have been interdicted by now. He called for all to lock step with the family to demand justice and accountability for the extrajudicial killing, warning that, “it can happen to everybody”.
